[AI Goes from College Student to PhD… OpenAI Unveils 'GPT-5' Model]

 OpenAI unveiled its latest AI model, “GPT-5,” on the 7th (local time). It is a hybrid model that further advances and integrates the previous “GPT-4o” and the reasoning model “o3,” and is the first completely new model to be released in two years.

 Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO) described GPT-5 by saying, “If GPT-3 felt like talking to a high school student, and GPT-4 felt like talking to a college student, then GPT-5 feels like talking to a PhD-level expert,” calling it a major leap toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

 OpenAI emphasized that GPT-5 is the smartest, fastest, and most useful model it has ever released. It showed cutting-edge performance in major benchmark tests for math, science, and coding, and with the ability to answer “I don’t know,” the occurrence of hallucinations—producing false information or content—has been significantly reduced.

 In addition, GPT-5 provides different answers each time the same question is repeated, and includes a feature that allows users to directly set the reasoning level and response length. Its natural sentence construction, creative expression, writing skills, and coding abilities have also been greatly improved compared to GPT-4.

 At a pre-briefing, GPT-5 was demonstrated building an application. When asked to “develop an app, including an educational game, that helps English speakers easily learn French,” it completed in a short time what would normally take a software developer several hours.

 GPT-5 is available to all users, but free users can only use it within a certain limit. Paid customers will see no change in pricing; Plus subscribers can enjoy higher usage and an enhanced version, while Pro subscribers can use it without limits.
